Why there are no Mexican/South American tours.

Posted 12:56 pm, November 22, 2006 by cat

This is 3rd hand information, but from what i’ve gathered it’s just too expensive to send LPs down there, they’re still relatively new on that side of the world, and without Mexico or South America having good solid venues with in house sound equipment set up and ready to go LPs won’t get down there for a while. And not arenas either, they’re definately not ready to do arenas in the US let alone Mexico or South America yet, and from what i’ve gathered there are no stable smaller venues with equipment down that way. It’s not the band that’ll be footing the bill, it’s Sony, and if they think it’s too expensive, it won’t happen. Sorry!

  3. Hopefully 1 day there will be some venues suitable enough for Sony (and lostprophets of course) in latin-America! They’ve got alot of fans there too, and some U.S. fans would go South to catch a few shows!

  4. dont get it! Marc Anthony, Cypress Hill, Ricky Martin, The Offspring, Roger Waters & few more have come/will come to Venezuela & and they’re from columbia records so why in that case of bands (& singers) its not expensive?

  6. i’m disappointed because in “Monterrey, Mexico” A Lot Of Bands like Placebo, Korn, Blink 182, Green Day, Rolling Stone, U2, Ill Niño, The Killers etc, all of them have played in arenas here, then i dont understand how can say that Mexico don’t have good arenas… however i’ll wait for seeing Lostprophets performance in Monterrey… d(*_*)b

    Great Regards from Monterrey Mexico

  7. unfortunately you can’t compare bands like U2 and Rolling Stones to Lostprophets, they are much larger bands and have sold many many more records! Bands like Blink 182, Green Day, The Offspring, they’ve been around longer than LPs and topped more charts! LPs still need to prove themselves in the US before Sony will shell out for larger tours and larger venues. And Ill Nino are mexicanish anyway so they don’t count hehe!

Just keep buying all the LPs records and getting more people into them, it’s sales and chart postitions that counts with Sony, and they won’t get good chart positions without you buying the cds and selling out whatever shows you can get to!

  10. aww that sucks that they won’t be going there at least not right now. I know I would love to go down south for a show of theirs.

And like an earlier poster said, they really do still need to prove themselves in the U.S. it’s a lot harder competition here for a high chart spot…but they can do it!

  11. other question. why they only sell b-sides on uk¿ same answer like the “why there are no south american tour”?

  14. tono, the problem is all those bands are bigger and have bigger record sales in the US, the lps are a tiny brit band compared to them with less than half the record sales they have. Lps have to work hard to prove themselves to the label before the label invest a LOT of money into sending them to other countries. They can’t take things like enormous sound desks, light rigs etc down to mexico or south america with them, they need to have venues with all this in place and good quality. Places like Japan, UK and USA have this already. In the UK they do have their own sound desk, infact they have 2 tour buses (one for band, one for crew) and a huge truck for their own lighting rig & sound desk!!! But in the UK the last album went to #1 and they’ve had several singles in the top 10 in the UK chart.

The reason singles are only really released here is because the way the music industry works. In the UK the significant chart is based on single sales, whereas in the US it’s based more on album sales and radio play.

I hope that translates ok on babelfish!!

  19. i live in mexico city and i thinki that you’re very cool but if you don’t want to come yuo wanna lose fans in this countryu

    Comment by hector — November 28, 2006 @ 2:15 am

  20. it’s not that they don’t want to go to these countries, trust me they do, it’s financial reasons, pure and simple. the band is an investment for Sony, and Sony want to see profit for their investment before they put more money into it. don’t want to lose profits or anything (ha! oh..bad pun)

as for australia and spain, i really don’t know at the moment. sorry!
