Camel Spider

http://www.gophergas.com/funstuff/camelspider.htm

This photo reportedly comes from a soldier, stationed in Baghdad, who was bitten by a camel spider that was hiding in his sleeping bag. Fortunately, these critters aren't venemous... but they're BIG and FAST (they can run around 10MPH). The photo shows two spiders attached together, and the camera angle makes them look a tad larger than they really are (they're about the size of an adult's hand). They also tend to seek out shade during the daytime, so it's not terribly unusual to see them charging across the desert at you -- only to come to a screeching halt when they reach your shadow

The brown recluses bite has no known anti venom to definatly stop the necrosis caused by its bite.
Yeah the British wolfspider has the most potent venom of any spider on the planet but its fangs are too soft to break the human skin.
Hahahaa i fukkin hate spiders but i think i've watched too many steve Irwin and animal plant programs

blimey o riley! thats one hell of a fucking spider.

if i was a soldier in iraq and one of those motherfuckers came screaming towards me, i'd probably be more scared of that than of being bombed.

seriously man, i'd take a fucking rifle to the thing.

i hate spiders

Camel spiders aren't proper spiders, although they are in the same group of animals as spiders and scorpions. They replicate by injecting a camel with their spawn, so a few weeks down the line the camel's belly bursts open and a swarm of pseudospiderlings fall onto the desert floor. They move about by following the shade of things and they can move very fast; although it seems as if they're chasing humans, jeeps etc they're just staying in the shade. Camel spider implantation in humans is incredibly rare, although it does happen.

I used to live in the middle east; I saw a couple of those things running about, and they're pretty creepy. I got closer to being bitten by a pit viper than those things though :)

You can't do that in the desert :p

First time I saw that picture I didn't look at it long enough to realise it was 2 of them. I was like "That's a lot of legs for one.. OH, there's 2". Heh.

That thumb one makes me feel sick so I'm not even going to bother looking at it again.

It doesn't matter if their venom can't do anything, nothing needs that many legs.

*shudders*

They're only about the size of your palm as well, but they can go at about 40mph. Which is just great when they're keeping pace with the car you're gibbering in.

No wonder camels always look incredibly pissed off.

I used to know someone who had a tarantula called Rosie as well (nothing to do with me... I hope). Cool!

Spiders don't really bother me that much, but finding them in a sleeping bag might...

them spiders look cool. They look like little aliens... those stupid soldiers disturbed the love. Can't anything get a bit of peace whilst doing the do?

i think id laugh if i saw one... I don't get people who are scared of spiders... but then i used to find them in my garden and put then in jars till they died (sick).

Its daddy long legs that are meant to be the most venomus, but they have no way of inflicting any harm on something... hehehe... useless twats. I have to admit, i do get a bit freaked out when those bloody great things are scurring about my ceeling in the summer urghh.

I'm not scared of spiders, except for big massive ones (tarantulas etc.). I kinda feel how minimatty does but I could just see myself running through the desert as one of them chases my shadow

The first stage of that bite looks kinda like my phenomenon (doo-doo do do doo) hands. They go red and then dead looking when they get cold, freaky
