I saw the video for Shinobi on mtv2 a few years back. I remember thinking, wow, this song is awesome, but I couldn't remember their name at first. It took me seeing it a couple times to remember. Aw, the memories...

I bought fakesoundofprogress right after it was released in the US, purely on a whim (lucky for me). so the first song i ever heard was shinobi, in fall 2001.

I was at a friend's house in Cardiff at the end of 2000 and she went into her brother's room to nick some of his cd's, so we could listen to them. Apparently her brother had put some of his cd's in the wrong cases, so when i put this Manic Street Preacher's cd in the cd player (or at least that's what i thought it was), we heard the first notes to Shinobi.
It was a copied cd and it was in the wrong case, so we didn't know what band it was from, but i was crazy about it, and i took it home with me (no, i didn't steal it, i just borrowed it, her brother was gone for a long time anyway).
I listened to it daily for a long time, and then i kinda forgot about it, until 2002, when i was talking to a friend on the phone.
I had MTV europe on, on mute, and this band came on. I had no idea who they were, but there was something about the leadsinger that fascinated me: his piercing eyes in some of the close up shots, (and the wavy hair). I know that sounds dumb, but if it hadn't been for those eyes, i wouldn't have even looked up...
So, i thought "wow, that guy has beautiful eyes, who's he?" and i turned the sound up...and what do you know? Fake Sound of Progress!!

...heard shinobi on this local radio show called 'the cage match' in october of 2001. It was pitted up against some greenwheel song (might've been breathe). Shinobi lost by like 2 votes. After that i went out and bought the album and was fucking obsessed. I went crazy when i saw the vid on mtv2 at like 1:00 in the morning like a month later. First time i saw them live was that november at this piece of shit hole in the wall gig like a few blocks down the street from where i lived in st. louis. This place called the Creepy Crawl (a place where local bands like the urge, gravity kills, and story of the year played before they got signed to major labels). They were there to support hoobastank who were just starting to get big at the time. I (needless to say) was one of the few fans there to actually see the prophets. Still got ian, lee, and mike c.'s autographs on this plane white t-shirt to this day. Those were the days...

December of 2001 sounds about right. I downloaded Shinobi from Audiogalaxy before it died.

I was hooked. So I kept downloading.. Fake Sound.. Kobrakai.. and eventually I bought the CD. :)

it was kobrakai on a rocksound cd. probably would have been late 2000 or early 2001. it was the only song i had by them and i listened to it all the time and kept meaning to check them out and read all the magazine articles and was very curious but never did anything about it until i saw them at leeds 2001. got the album the very next day.

haha, Ian's eyes are so beautiful in that video, it was the first thing i noticed when i saw it!

i heard them first around autumn 01, i think i heard shinobi on the rock show on radio1 or something and completely fell in love with the harmonies.
